Behavioural Consultations

Behavioural Consultations

Ben heads up the practice’s equine behaviour service, but all of our vets have experience with using equitation science training techniques. We can provide training and assistance with a variety of behavioural issues including:

  • Head-shy horses (difficult to bridle, worm or touch their ears, for example)
  • Needle shy horses (do you dread the vet coming out for routine vaccinations?)
  • Horses that require sedating for the farrier (how much does a set of shoes cost you?!?)
  • Horses that resent other procedures such as treatment of their feathers, grooming, tacking up, touching the belly, having their tail touched etc.

Importantly, as equine veterinary surgeons, we can also fully assess your horse’s health and distinguish between behavoiural issues and musculoskeletal problems that might be causing pain. As we gain more experience in this developing area we will be able to offer further-reaching behavioural consultations. Also, to continue building our experience, we are offering a fantastic money-back guarantee on all of our initial consultations for clients who are not completely satisfied with the outcome.

Initial consultations cost £50 plus the standard visit fee. Follow up consultations, if required, are charged at our normal hourly rate.

Ben is a member of the International Society for Equitation Science. Further details about the society and its principles of training can be found on their website at http://www.equitationscience.com/home

The basic principles of equitation science training are summarised neatly in this poster.
